1. Drone Motors: Powering Efficient Propulsion
Mechanism:
Brushless DC Motors (BLDC): UAV rely on BLDC motors for propulsion, which use permanent magnets (typically neodymium iron boron, NdFeB) in the rotor to generate a stable magnetic field. The interaction between the rotor’s magnets and the stator’s electromagnetic coils drives the motor’s rotation.
High Energy Density: NdFeB magnets (e.g., N52 grade) provide exceptional magnetic strength, enabling motors to achieve power densities of 5–8 kW/kg. This allows UAV to lift heavier payloads and sustain longer flight times.
Applications:
Multi-Rotor UAV: High-speed BLDC motors with NdFeB magnets enable agile maneuvers and rapid altitude adjustments.
Fixed-Wing UAV: SmCo (samarium cobalt) magnets are used in high-temperature motors for endurance flights, maintaining performance at temperatures exceeding 150°C.
Innovations:
Thin-Film Magnets: Ultra-thin sliced NdFeB magnets (0.2–0.5mm) reduce motor weight while maintaining torque output.
Corrosion-Resistant Coatings: Epoxy or nickel-plated magnets withstand humidity and salt spray in marine UAV.
